Yosemite Lakes, located in central California near the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, experiences a Mediterranean climate characterized by wet winters and dry summers. This climate, typical of much of the California interior, brings the majority of Yosemite Lakes’ annual rainfall during the winter months, roughly from November to April.

On average, Yosemite Lakes receives about 20 to 30 inches of annual rainfall. Precipitation is most abundant in the colder months, with December, January, and February often being the wettest. During these peak winter months, rainfall can be moderate to heavy at times, replenishing local water sources and contributing to the flow of nearby streams and rivers that may swell with the winter rains.

This cyclical rainfall pattern is critical for the area’s ecology, as it sustains the diverse habitats around Yosemite Lakes, from the majestic oak woodlands to the grassy foothills and the mixed forests of ponderosa pine and incense cedar that climb the slopes towards Yosemite National Park.

During the dry summer months, however, rainfall is sparse, with little to no precipitation typically occurring from June through September. These dry conditions heighten the risk of wildfires in the region and necessitate careful water conservation and management in the Yosemite Lakes community.
